Out of Order Session Edition Black IPA
The original “Out of Order” black IPA, named after the local band "Out of Order" is delicious, but it’s strong and isn’t a session beer, so we thought we’d copy an idea from Sierra Nevada Brewery and create a “Session Edition” at 4.3%.
This beer retains the dark, hoppy character of the original, but at a more “quaffable” strength, better for draught... or a night on the bottles.
Pour it out and it's still dark brown, with a tight, tan head which lingers. Straight away you can smell that it's not a Mild or a Stout. You'll get hints of grapefruit and pine from the UK-grown but US-style hops, followed by an undercurrent of the dark malt, like toast, with a touch of coffee. Taste it and you get the hoppy bitterness first, with the roast coffee and grapefruit mixture coming through afterwards. After the first sip it's smooth, with an underlying sweetness, and it leaves a slighty dry and complex aftertaste.
